Key features:

S-metolachlor is the biologically active isomer of racemic metolachlor, making it approximately six times more active against weeds than the R-isomer pair. This allows for lower application rates while maintaining high performance. It provides extended residual weed control, often lasting 60-90 days, ensuring protection during critical early growth stages. It acts by inhibiting the synthesis of very long-chain fatty acids (VLCFA), blocking the growth of roots and shoots in germinating seedlings.

Mechanism of Action:

S-metolachlor is a widely used selective, pre-emergence herbicide primarily known for its high efficacy against annual grasses and certain broad-leaved weeds in major crops like corn, soybeans, and cotton.  S-metolachlor is highly selective, allowing for safe use in crops including corn, soybeans, cotton, sugarcane, potatoes, and various vegetables. It is well-suited for conservation tillage systems and has a low risk of developing weed resistance, making it a critical component of integrated weed management (IWM).

Application:

S-metolachlor is a pre-emergence, selective herbicide applied via sprayer to control annual grasses and some broadleaf weeds, typically before weed germination and in moist soil conditions. Common application rates are 500–800 ml/acre or 1–2 L/ha, often applied at, before, or shortly after planting, with essential incorporation by rain or irrigation within 10 days
